Summer's nominally here, so that means the appearance of Hed Kandi's annual Beach House compilation. Whereas early installments were unmixed for DJ use, this year's edition comes as a smooth, three-CD mix-up (DJ unknown). Musically, there are few surprises, but by now we should all know what to expect: a mixture of slick deep house, sunny Latin-house grooves and dewy-eyed soulful fare. As ever with Hed Kandi, there are some surprising selections amongst the familiar faves (see the inclusion of high quality tracks from Mic Newman, Rodrigo Rodriguez, Shur-I-Kan and Maceo Plex), which go some way to breathe new life into a vintage format.
